Map Skills

We just started our map skills unit and its one of my favorites to teach because I love geography. Come on over to I Heart Teaching Elementary to check out a couple of things we are working on!

Multiplication Center FREEBIE!

My kids and I are setting off on the wild journey of multiplication!  We watched this BrainPop video:

We have gone over different examples on the board, in groups, and created anchor charts.  But I know my kids need more practice before we dive any deeper!  So I created this center to use next week.  It covers repeated addition and models in order to find the product of each multiplication sentence.  You can snag it below for FREE!  :)

Landforms - Vocab Graphic Organizer and Assessment

While teaching my students about landforms, I gave them this graphic to record definitions, examples, and pictures.  I created an assessment to use at the end of our unit. The assessment includes a word bank.

Click the pic below if you would like to check it out at my TpT store.

It's also at my Teacher's Notebook store if you're a TN shopper. :)

Data Notebooks

Life has been a rollercoaster in the Bookworm House lately. My favorite {I know... but she is.} student is losing her brave battle with leukemia. My husband's grandmother is also in failing health. We were called home this past weekend to say our goodbyes. Since then, both of them have continued to improve somewhat. I don't understand this plan, but I am thankful for any time I can spend with both of them. Your prayers are both coveted and appreciated.

Not how you expected this post to start, right? On to data notebooks!

Our school piloted the 7 Habits last year, and we have gone "schoolwide" this year. This includes data notebooks. We are departmentalized 1st-5th grades, and each teacher is require to track a few different things:

ELA:
 - Guided Reading Progress
 - Reading Fluency
 - Sight Word Recognition
 - Letter Recognition

Math:
 - Fact Fluency
 - Number Recognition

Both:
 - Mock CRCT scores (3 times a year)

These requirements are differentiated according to each child's needs. For example, a student who doesn't know all of their sight words is not ready to have their reading fluency tracked. Another child may already know all of their addition and subtraction facts and is ready to begin tracking their multiplication fact progress.

I'm including most of the forms we use to keep track of all this student data. I'll post the math forms in a separate post. I'm still converting some of them to PDFs. :)

Guided Reading Progress (K-5)

Fluency (K-2)

Fluency (3-5)

Sight Words (in order of difficulty)

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!

Cultivating Great Students Into Outstanding Citizens!

The admin at my new school came up with a creed that we recite each morning.  At first it seemed cult-like, but then I started seeing the benefits.  No matter what grade a student is in or where they go throughout the building, they know what is expected of them.  I think they enjoy being role models to other students...everybody loves that feeling of being looked up to!  I really enjoy having something in place that cultivates school and classroom community.  Here is our creed:
What does your school do to promote community and citizenship?

Teambuilding and Classroom Community Activity!

My guidance counselor at my new school showed me the coolest way to promote teambuilding and community within the classroom.  You start with the teacher's name.  From there, each child adds their name to the poster.  The catch is you have to write your name using a letter from another classmate.  Here's an example:
Isn't that adorable?!  I had never seen this before.  Even if you get new students, they can add their names!  And then you can hang it on your wall to remind students that we're all in this TOGETHER!  :)  Enjoy!  Off to a Falcons game!  Rise up!
